Taking the Gospel Beyond City Church Melissa
Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man.
- John Piper, Let the Nations Be Glad
At City Church Melissa, we long for the day when Christ returns and sin and death and brokenness reign no more, when "everything sad comes untrue." But until that day, the Great Commission is the hearts' cry of every believer.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
- Matthew 28:19-20
Here are some of the organizations City Church Melissa has partnered with to fulfill the Great Commission:
Matthew 25:31-46 reminds believers to join Jesus in this ministry by stepping into the lives of the helpless with compassion and humility. In this, Christ’s Kingdom is made known to the world – where the outsider is welcomed in, the sick is made whole, and where the orphan finds a home.
Inspired by Matthew 25, the 25 Project partners with the Body of Christ to empower vulnerable children around the world with the hope of the Gospel, loving community, and the tools they need to grow and thrive.
The vision of Global Training Network is to provide quality biblical and theological training to thousands of indigenous church planters, pastors and Christian leaders throughout the Majority World, so that these pastors and leaders can then effectively equip and lead their congregations to evangelize and disciple their communities for Christ.
"Today, at least 75% of the world's Christians are non-Western, or living in what is called the 'Majority World.' This means Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. But 80% of Majority World pastors have no formal biblical training." (Langham Partnership)
Hope Women’s Center was founded in 2006 as a non-profit Christ-focused, missional pregnancy center. We desire to reach teens, women, and families experiencing unplanned pregnancies and provide them with compassionate assistance and accurate information to empower them to make healthy, informed pregnancy and lifestyle decisions.
Embrace proudly serves foster and adoptive families licensed with any child placing agency, at-risk children and their caregivers, kinship care providers, and foster care alumni. While our primary focus is Collin County, we serve families across North Texas (DFPS Region 3). Embrace Texas exists to reflect God’s heart for vulnerable, neglected, marginalized, abused and abandoned children.
Naomi’s Village is a Kenyan children’s home, preschool, and K-12 academy serving children in the Great Rift Valley.
We provide holistic, intentional, and loving care for Kenyan children in need.
Church Planting
Because the New Testament does not conceive of a healthy believer growing in submission to Christ apart from a local church, City Church Melissa is deeply committed to planting churches locally and globally. To that end, we have partnered with the Acts29 network and SEND church planting network.
In 2025, we plan to plant Resurrection Church in Anna, TX. If you'd like more information about this, contact Rob Tombrella.
Beyond our area, we are currently supporting and investing in the following church plants:
- Pastor Stephen Silamo, Kenya
- Pastor Ronald Kogo, Crosspointe Bible Church, Kenya
- Jason Langford, Radiant Church, Syracuse, NY
